Baldur's Gate 3: How to save Alfira?

You’ll encounter many different characters during your Baldur’s Gate 3 adventure. Unfortunately, for some, fate seems to be cruel. Gamers wondered if there was a way to save these NPCs like Alfira.

Where can I find Alfira in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Before we begin, we’d like to warn you that this Baldur’s Gate 3 tip will contain minor spoilers. Therefore, if you haven’t yet discovered how Alfira interacts with you, we advise you not to continue reading after the first part of this guide.

We can only advise you to save your game when Alfira joins your side and come back to find out how you’ll have to act to save her. With that out of the way, let’s turn our attention to our NPC.

Alfira is an NPC you’ll be able to find in the Emerald Grove, and more specifically, when you go down the steps to meet the local chief. Once you’ve passed the steps, you’ll find a small path leading off to the side. To help you, we’ve indicated Alfira’s precise location on the map below.

How do you save Alfira from certain death?

Once there, you’ll see Alfira playing music, accompanied by some animals. You will aim to encourage her to grieve and finish her song. Don’t leave the conversation before it’s over.

Try to help her as much as possible and answer her questions positively. Once the plot of the grove is over and the goblins have been eliminated, Alfira will join your side if you play Dark Impulses, and that’s when things start to go rather wrong for her.

Indeed, during the sleep phase of the following Long Rest, your Dark Impulses will lead you to kill her; on the face of it, there’s nothing you can do to stop it! However, there is a method you can use if you absolutely must save her, found by players on Reddit.

When you engage Long Rest and the cutscene where Alfira joins you launches, load your last save game. Then go to Alfira and knock her out without killing her (best done discreetly, by coming up from behind, for example).

Once she’s unconscious, launch the Long Rest and Alfira, having been stunned, is unavailable. An NPC named Quill Will will take her place. It’s Quill Will you’ll be killing at night, not Alfira, who will be safe and sound.
