Where are Baldur’s Gate 3 save files?

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a role-playing game that lets you create and customize your character, explore a vast and prosperous world, and shape the story with your choices.

But what if you want to back up your progress, switch to a different device, or share your saved files with others? I’ll show you how to find and manage your Windows Baldur’s Gate 3 save files.

Where are Baldur’s Gate 3 save files located?

Baldur’s Gate 3 save files are stored in a hidden folder called AppData, which is located on your Windows install drive, usually C:. To access it, you must enable the option to show hidden items in the File Explorer. To do that, open the File Explorer, click the View tab, and check the box next to Hidden Items.

Once you’ve done that, you can navigate to the following path:

C:\Users[username]\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur’s Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames\Story

In that folder, you’ll see several subfolders that correspond to different save states. Each subfolder contains a file called metadata.lsf and a Savegame folder. The metadata.lsf file contains information about the save state, such as the date, time, location, and party members. The Savegame folder contains the actual data of the save state, such as the character attributes, inventory, quests, and world state.

How to back up, transfer, or share your Baldur’s Gate 3 save files?

To back up your Baldur’s Gate 3 save files, copy and paste the subfolders from the Story folder to another location, such as an external hard drive or a cloud service. You can also use this method to transfer your saved files to another device or share them with other players.

Ensure that the destination device has Baldur’s Gate 3 installed and that you paste the subfolders into the same Story folder.

How to load a different Baldur’s Gate 3 save file?

If you want to load a different Baldur’s Gate 3 save file from the game’s main menu, you can do so. Click on Load Game and select the save file you want to load from the list. You can also sort the saved files by date or name by clicking the arrows next to each column.

Alternatively, you can click Browse Saved Games and navigate to the subfolder containing the save file you want to load.

How to delete or rename your Baldur’s Gate 3 save files?

If you want to delete or rename your Baldur’s Gate 3 save files, you can do so from the game’s main menu or the File Explorer. From the game’s main menu, click on Load Game and select the save file you want to delete or rename.

Then, click on Delete or Rename at the bottom of the screen. From the File Explorer, navigate to the subfolder that contains the save file you want to delete or rename. Then, right-click on it and select Delete or Rename from the menu.
